Winter activities

Skiing

The ski lift carousel Winterberg is the largest interconnected ski area in northern Germany. It has a range of 26 lifts and 30 downhill runs with around 27.5 kilometres of slopes. The ski area now has Snowmakers that can produce snow even at plus temperatures. This means they start making snow as early as early November and they try to have the first lifts running by the first weekend in December. As a result, the ski area has more skiing to offer. There is also a Dutch ski school present, namely ski school Der Brabander. Ski school Der Brabander

Grönebach is only 4 kilometres from the first ski lift of ski lift carousel Winterberg.

Not only can you ski here during the day, but also two evenings a week. Namely Tuesdays and Saturdays, this gives a very special atmosphere.

Cross-country skiing

Winterberg and its surroundings also have many opportunities for cross-country skiers, as it has around 170 km of tracked trails at all levels.

The village of Grönebach itself has two cross-country trails, a blue one of 5 kilometres and a red one of 7 kilometres. There are many more cross-country skiing areas in the immediate vicinity, such as the Kuhlenberg, Bremberg and Lenneplatze.

Sledging

No pulling your sledge up every time and then down in two seconds. At ski lift carousel Winterberg, you even have two sledge lifts. Enjoy sitting on your sledge at a toboggan lift or take a chairlift to the top and then down special toboggan slopes.

Winter hiking

Not only in summer is Winterberg and its surroundings known as a hiking area, but also in winter you can enjoy hiking. With an average of 90 days of snow, it is an enchanted land to walk through. It’s like walking through a Christmas card. Again, the hiking routes are well marked and even 30 km of winter hiking trails are cleared of snow.

Other winter sports

The bobsleigh track in Winterberg is the fastest track in the world and because of that also very popular with the world’s top bobsleighers. This brings thousands of spectators to Winterberg every winter. If you want to know more about it, you can take a guide along the bobsleigh track or if you want to try it out, there is a taxibob.

Ski jumping is also a sport which is done a lot in Winterberg. The St.George ski jump on the Herrloh is used both summer and winter.

At the cross-country skiing station Bremberg, a whole biathlon station has also been built, where young and old practise the old sport.

If you fancy something different, Willingen also has an indoor skating rink.
