Winter activities
Skiing
The skiliftkarussell Winterberg is the largest connected skiing area of North Germany. 21 lifts, 30 downhills with approximately 32 kilometres of slopes are at your disposal.
There is also a Dutch-speaking ski school, ski school Der Brabander.
The first lift of Skiliftkarussell Winterberg is only 4 kilometres from Grönebach.
You can ski here not only during the day, but on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday also in the evening. That creates a very special atmosphere and the slopes are quieter in the evening.
If you have never skied before and want to start out quietly, there is also a small skiing area at 2 kilometres distance from Grönebach, the Ruhrquelle. This area also has its own ski school.
Cross-country skiing
Winterberg and surroundings also offer a lot of opportunities for cross-country skiing with approximately 170 kilometres of spur trails at all levels.
The village of Grönebach itself has 2 cross-country ski trails, a blue one of 5 kilometres and a red one of 7 kilometres. In the immediate vicinity there are more cross-country skiing areas, like the Kuhlenberg, Bremberg and Lenneplätze.
Sledging
At Skiliftkarussell Winterberg there are two sledge lifts, so you don’t have to pull up your sledge every time. Just sit on your sledge and be pulled up, and than sledge down on special sledge slopes.
Winter hiking
Winterberg and surroundings are not only known as a hiking area in summer. Also in winter you can go for a beautiful walk. With an average of 90 days of snow you can walk through a magnificent landscape, like you are walking in a Christmas card. Also in winter the trails are marked well and 30 km of winter hiking trails are even cleared of snow.
Other winter sports
The Winterberg bobsleigh track is the world´s fastest track and therefore very popular with the world´s leading bobsleigh teams. Every winter the bobsleigh track draws thousands of spectators. If you want to learn more about bobsleighing, you can visit the bobsleigh track with a guide. If you´d like to try speeding down yourself, you have a chance do that in a taxibob.
Ski jumping is another very popular sport in Winterberg. The Ski jump of St. Georg on the Herrlof is in use both winter and summer.
In the cross-country ski station Bremberg there is also a biathlon stadion, where young and old practice this old sport.
If you would like to do something different, you can go to the indoor skating rink in Winterberg.
